Maurice Griffiths Ketch
Eilean Naomi was built based on designs by Maurice Griffiths and is a heavy displacement, long keel sailing ketch. With her shallow draft she allows cruising in shoal waters or coastal hopping with good sailing performance, and she has the added bonus of a steel centreboard which increases the draft to over 5 feet and offers better windward performance.
The propeller sits inside the rudder mountings to minimise the chance of fishing lines getting caught up in the prop. She has two yacht legs from The Yacht Leg Company which clip onto the hull sides to allow drying out on a level beach or sea bed. They can also be used to support the boat for winter storage ashore.
The BMC 1500 32hp diesel engine coupled to a PRM gearbox and traditional stern gland gives plenty of power, so she motors at good speeds.
She is well equipped and ready to sail, and has 5 berths and plenty of space below deck and good stowage throughout. She offers traditional accommodation with plenty of varnished woodwork and has been maintained to a high standard by her current and previous owners. Full history is available.
Being a ketch it has a variety of combinations of sail that can be used depending on the wind conditions, including a cruising chute and a mizzen top sail but is equally happy cruising on mainsail and genoa. The full rigging including the mizzen was replaced 2 years ago.
